Jessica Winter – My First Album!

Today, alt-pop provocateur Jessica Winter releases her highly anticipated and acclaimed debut album, My First Album, out now via Lucky Number. Jessica has released five singles from the album to date, ‘L.O.V.E.’‘All I Ever Really Wanted’‘Wannabe’‘Aftersun’, and ‘Big Star’.

essica Winter is a soon-to-be iconic cult pop star, and on My First Album she oscillates between channeling 00s aesthetics with addictive dance-pop beats, and stripped-back, raw, emotive pop anthems. There are shades of Kylie Minogue and the glitter of 80s Madonna, there’s the flamboyance of Prince and Queen and there’s energy and occasional snarl of punk and the dreamy arched-eyebrow of psychedelia. Relentlessly inventive, with her debut album Jessica does what she has done for her whole career and takes a multitude of influences and stamps her unique, unmistakable ‘Jessica Winter’ sound across them.

Speaking about My First Album, Jessica Winter said:

“Looking back to my childhood and what an album meant, it was something solid and permanent, completed and curated. You could hold it in your hands, put it on the record player and listen to it in its entirety. In this era of disposable moments and ever rolling, broken news, I wanted to inject something whole into the ether, a permanent moment in the long stream of my music career in all that it’s been.

All of us will be many things in our lives. Over the years I’ve worn many different outfits, had many reincarnations, worked in many different bands, and so it should be. All of those things were me as I was at that moment, somewhere along the timeline of my life. What I wanted to offer right now is this moment and in it, pure, clutter free me, so here it is.

I am Jessica Winter, this is my first album, and I dedicate it purely to LOVE.”

Jessica will play multiple in-store live dates to celebrate the release of My First Album, playing Rough Trade East tonight followed by shows in cities including Brighton, Bristol, Leeds, Liverpool and her hometown, Portsmouth.
