Gabriel Delgado Lopez, singer and co-founder of the influential German EBM/Neue Deutsch Welle duo D.A.F. (Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft) has passed away on the evening of 22.03.2020, aged 61.
Born in southern Spain, Delgado-López moved to Germany with his family in 1966, aged 8. He lived in Remscheid, Wuppertal, Dortmund, Düsseldorf and Berlin where he was last located.
He formed D.A.F., along with Robert Görl in 1978, before the band members parted ways six years later. After releasing a solo album, he reunited with Görl in 1986 and moved to Berlin where he lived for many years until recently.
Delgado-López released three albums as a solo artist and seven albums with DAF. He also recorded very important music under the Delkom and DAF/DOS projects.
DAF were one the pioneer bands of the EBM scene. They were always creative, provocative and never compliant. The music scene loses one of the most influential artist and most creative minds.
Robert Görl, late artist’s bandmate in DAF, posted the news on Instagram: “I found out today that my longtime friend and bandmate Gabi Delgado passed away last night”.
Olaf Sprick, manager of WOD Booking wrote on his profile: ”My deepest sympathy goes to his wife Jane and his congenial musician Robert Görl. My thanks to all business partners,as live organizer DAF for many years have given their trust and above all: Thank you to all loyal fans who have loved DAF for what they did in over 40 years of their career and have achieved everything in cultural history. Bye Gabi, “as if it was the last time”. ”Loss is nothing else but change, and change is nature’s delight” – Marc Aurelius”.
