CD Review - Razorfade - Liberation

E-mail Print option in slimbox / lytebox? (info) PDF

Genre: Synthpop , Electro gothic , Electronic

Label: Alfa Matrix

Razorfade is a brand new project set up by Mark Tansley (Suspiria, Intravenus) and singer Clifford Ennis (Subterfuge and former guitarist of Ikon). ). Razorfade is a kind of come back for M. Tansley who'll always be linked to the legendary gothic label Nightbreed Productions.

Razorfade   finally presents “Liberation” (6 track EP). Blending influences from the alternative 1980′s new wave movement with current electro sounds, Razorfade is reinterpreting alternative electronic music for those with a darker side. The sound is still quite gothic like. We can speak about a kind of Sisters Of Mercy on a cyber trip! “If the SISTERS OF MERCY were writing music now, is RAZORFADE what they would sound like?” (This is what’s written on the bands Myspace side. )The album got some spice of the Grand Master of dark music likewise it got some ingredients of Depeche Mode.Similarities with bands like VNV Nation, Clan of Xymox or yet Assemblage 23.

"Liberation" is driven by a danceable beat and devastating chorus.good balance between electronics and guitar  and The vocal chords are right in tune and hits the nerve of Dark Pop feeling.  EP start with  “Liberation” a "Radio Edit" while the original version appears to be the last song. "Suspiria"-mix, reminds us to the good-old days of this band although this mix is the less attractive one. Among the 3 songs left there's a remarkable cover version of Tears For Fears' "Pale Shelter".". The original wave-pop style of this song has been transposed into a more electrogothic-pop cover. Dark electronic sounds, beating kick drums and melodious chorus are  the parts of  “Last Time” and  “A Push Away From Falling” songs.

This British-Australian duo combines gothic and pop with a great way and  will not surprised to see getting a deal during the coming weeks/months!

Tracklist :

01 Liberation "Radioedit"

02 A push away from falling

03 Last time

04 Liberation (Suspiria Mix)

05 Pale shelter

06 Liberation
